Release Date:
October 2001

Genre:
RPG

Localisation:
complete

The sinister prison world of Gothic is divided into two camps, inhabited by rivalling gangs who fight for the precious ore. At the same time, the prisoners are trying to escape the mighty Barrier that was created by magic and can be penetrated in one direction only. The player must not merely learn to survive among ore barons and their vicious henchmen, but will also encounter dangerous orcs on his quest to find the key to his own freedom and that of his fellow prisoners ...

An "exceptional" German-English localisation that the American trade press was visibly "impressed" by.

Press Notes about
Gothic
Deccember 2001
justadventure.com
"I was impressed with the quality of the dialog. When a game is translated into English, the conversations are often stilted and unnatural. This is not the case with the Gothic preview, and Piranha Bytes is to be commended for the smooth transition between languages"
Deccember 2001
Gamezone.com
"The score and voices of Gothic are obviously the results of an extraordinary amount of attention. Voice acting must have been determined by nothing less than auditions - I can't recall a game with such animated and varied voice acting."
Deccember 2001
www.rpgdot.com
"... eagerly unpacked the CD and installed the game ... and I was really confident with the quality of the English actors - as good as in the German version. While gameplay hasn't changed at all of course, the actors sound professional and the game will for sure leave its mark worldwide now. A big kudos to Piranha Bytes, both for the game itself and for the great English localization!"
