Gothic II can rightfully claim to have what are probably the most extensive voice-overs in the history of computer games. Hardly any other game contains more than 9 hours of recorded dialogue in every language version. Effective Media realized both the German and English versions simultaneously, so that approximately 350,000 words were written and recorded in a short space of time. For comparison, a typical first person shooter or RTS title would contain only about 5,000 - 10,000 spoken words.

Fans and the press appreciated this and gave unstinting praise to the game and its voice-overs. More than 100,000 copies were sold in a short time period (Gold Award), and the TV production Giga Games praised the recordings by saying that: ”There is no other game with such excellent German VO.”
